As Gemini season heralds summertime and encourages us to approach life with a sense of wonder and playfulness, Austin, TX, the “Live Music Capital of the World,” turned out to be the perfect place to embrace these energies.
Heading there with an old college buddy of mine—and fellow musician/music-lover—we gave ourselves over to the tenor of the town, and allowed ourselves to be swept away by the joy of music. Four days of total relishing in the carefree spirit of Gemini—wheeee!
The vibrant melodies and infectious energy at venues like The Continental Club, where the fingers of 82-year old Earl Poole Ball kissed the keyboard like there was no tomorrow (demonstrating the talent that Johnny Cash saw those 20 years they played together)...
And Antone’s, where jamming Jabo “shared his first name” but never revealed his age (and we’re thinking at least ten years older than Earl!).

Here’s the thing, though: while Gemini season encourages us to explore widely and actively engage with the world, it’s essential to be mindful of the dangers of letting that energy consume us. Admittedly, Andy and I definitely got to the edge of that by the end of the weekend!
So grateful for the self-care breaks we took at Zilker Park’s Botanical Garden and along the river by the Congress Street Bridge… not to mention indulging in Spa treatments at the Fairmont as well. Ahhhhh………
Austin, for sure, feels different from other parts of Texas.
“Keep Austin Weird” is a local motto I am strongly in favor of!
The city certainly provided the perfect playground for embracing the wonder, curiosity, and playfulness of Gemini season… thankfully balanced with a little pampering and restorative breaks to prevent burnout.
